I am 38, try to stay active and have aches and pains most every day. I visit a chiropractor once a month, stretch most evenings before I go to bed, lift weights and have had back issues for nearly 20 years due to breaking my pelvis when a teenager. I don't say all of that to gain any pitty, I say it to let you know I have a long history of doctors, playing sports and seeking pain relief. I read all the reviews and decided to purchase this thumper. Well, my review is basically a 3 out of 5 stars. Of course this hand held thumper is MUCH BETTER than the cheap $30-$50 units they sell but it really didn't have the super deep thumping that I was seeking. I had a Homedics hand held unit that I got at a garage sale that was older but it was really powerful. I weigh 230lbs and could sit on it when trying to penetrate my extreme lower back when the sciatica nerve was really painful. I kick myself everyday because when the power cord developed a short in it I threw it out without getting the model number off of it first. Of course I've done search after search trying to find another one but have been unable to locate the exact unit I had. The Mini Pro Thumper is not as powerful...I cannot put a lot of pressure on it because it will stop its thumping motion. Also as mentioned in several posts it does overheat after 15-20 minutes of heavy use. I have decided to keep it because I cannot find another Homedics unit like I had before. Some people have stated that it is "too powerful" for massaging your upper shoulders and neck, but it is not unless maybe you're a very small person and you are not used to using a hand held thumper. If you're looking for a decent thumper for occasional pain relief, then this is for you. If you are a more active person who needs deeper muscle pain relief on a more consistant basis like myself, then this thumper is only going to be "ok". I've only had it for a month but I wonder if by overheating it all the time if it will last for a long period of time. I guess only time will tell.
